Far above the arctic circle is the beutiful river Stabburselva, a two hours drive north and east of the city of Alta. This is one of the finer salmon fishing rivers in Norway, and now it is possible to monitor the migration of wild salmon with the new VAKI Riverwatcher that has been installed in the fishway at Stabbursfossen waterfall.

After the first few days 18 salmon had been registered, 14 of them larger than 70 cm and the largest one was measured 105 cm long. The Riverwatcher saves images of all registartions so it is easy to verify the counts. It also registers the size of fish, time of day and date, direction, speed and the temperature of the water.
