New Fish Grader

The main advantages of the new VAKI Grader are its large capacity, grading accuracy up to 4 sizes and the fact that the fish remains in water at all times during grading.

Mr. David Grey from Marine Harvest Scotland came to look at our new Fish Grader 140. He is interested in adding yet another grader to their sites in Scotland. They have had a VAKI Fish Grader for many years and are very pleased with its function and results.

Mr. Gray joined us and a couple of employees from the development team to visit Ísþór at Þorlákshöfn for an inspection and to see the new grader in action.

The main advantages of the new VAKI Grader are its large capacity, grading accuracy up to 4 sizes and the fact that the fish remains in water at all times during grading. The VAKI Grader is designed for accurate grading of fish from 5 g. With a diameter of only 140 cm it is very compact, light and easily moved around the farm.

The new grader is hexagonal, which makes it more accurate because it is easier to setup equal lengths between the compartments. These changes mitigate the effect of centrifugal force which can cause the fish to move to the outer edge of the compartment.

The testing of the new grader is in its final stage, Þorvaldur and Heiða took some sampling from the graded fish in order to gather information and evaluate the accuracy. They measured the accuracy of the grader by grading the fish into three groups.

The grading gaps were set on 0mm, 9,6mm, 13mm and full opening. Samples were taking from each group, the fish measured by thickness and length as well as weighed.
They concluded a clear split between the three size groups and great grading precision. The middle size collection had both upper and lower bounds which is very realistic regarding the settings of the grader.
