Informative, Interesting and without doubt Fun Riverwatcher seminar
Another informative, interesting and without doubt fun Riverwatcher seminar came to a close early in September.
This year’s seminar was attended by overseas participants from Sweden, Spain, Scotland and Wales.
The main topics of discussion were on the new web based reporting system currently under development. Other hot items included the wireless connection of the camera set up and the demand for multiple or wider/longer scanner units to accommodate larger and wider fish passages.
Presentations were made by members of the VAKI team on the latest developments, maintenance, servicing and data handling and also by manyof the group on individual experiences and findings using the RiverWatcher.
A panoramic evening at the revolving Pearl restaurant in central Reykjavík was followed the next day with a field trip. During the trip the group visited Riverwatcher installations in the Rivers Elliðaár, Úlfarsá, Leirvogsá, Norðurá, Gljúfurá and Langá giving the opportunity to view Atlantic salmon in some of Iceland’s most pristine and productive rivers as well as a spot of sightseeing and Volcano climbing.
At the close of the seminar Esteban Alvarez the Vaki man in Spain proposed holding the next Riverwatcher seminar in his home region of Asturias, see you there!
